High Tool Performance at a Moderate Cost

Chemgineering Technology AG uses the TRICAD MS planning tool for demanding projects in GxP-regulated companies.

What does a modern system planning tool have to provide? Chemgineering – a consulting and engineering company active worldwide with more than 300 employees was faced in 2012 with this question but did not want to use any longer the tool they had employed up to that point. The planners evaluated proposals from five suppliers using a detailed requirements catalogue. Result: TRCAD MS fulfilled the remits best – and at acceptable operating costs.

In the meantime, Chemgineering has successfully carried out the first 3D planning projects in Switzerland, Germany and Austria using TRICAD MS, as reported by Dipl.-Ing. FH Torsten Merly, leader of the CAD Plant Design Group | Project Manager for plant construction in Switzerland.

What are the particular distinguishing features of this planning tool in his opinion? From the purely economical point of view, one of the advantages of TRICAD MS is the relatively favourable investment and follow-up cost – other tools are daunting with their three to five times higher operating costs. There are certainly meanwhile also tools that are even less expensive but then also have limited functionality to offer. “TRICAD MS in this respect takes up a middle position, with low costs and a wide variety of functions with all the modules necessary for chemical and pharmaceutical planning”.

The comparatively high flexibility of the tool itself and the possibility of direct contact with the VenturisIT programmers was seen by Merly as a further advantage.

TRICAD MS as a CAD/CAE planning tool provides specific modules with a consistent user interface for all disciplines in the planning of plant, building technology and factories. An important feature of this tool is thus the opportunity for integrated, cross-discipline planning. The integration of calculation algorithms is also possible – all important points for a company like Chemgineering. In addition to moderate operating costs, the flexibility of an uncomplicated and speedy setting up of a project (especially in terms of  integration into the Citrix system landscape) was an argument for the transfer to TRICAD MS. Last but not least – the transparent and flexible licensing model as a convincing argument.
